Hook. Story. Offer. Here's mine. What's yours?

Hook. Story. Offer.

The concept is pretty simple but the impact is huge.

I recently completed a 30 day challenge with Russell Brunson in celebration of his newly released book, Traffic Secrets: The Underground Playbook for Filling Your Websites and Funnels with Your Dream Customers.

The book is all about getting traffic and filling your funnels with dream customers. Who wouldn’t want that? But one part of the book really spoke to me because I realized that, all this time, I’ve been doing it wrong. And I consider myself to be a digital marketing expert!

So what is Hook, Story, Offer anyway? And why does it have me second-guessing a 20+ year resume of effectively building companies as a self-made, self-funded entrepreneur?

Hook, Story, Offer is all about getting your products and services out to the world, profitably. Because if you’re reading this you may be a guerrilla entrepreneur like me, meaning you don’t have venture capital, angel investors, etc. Meaning every dime you spend on marketing comes out of your pocket — aka your profits — and so you really, really care about getting the most bang for the smallest buck.

The hook grabs you.

The story is what you say behind the hook.

And, the offer is literally what you are offering clients. For me it could be something like a discount and special bonus gift when you purchase my course, How To Start A Successful Business in 30 Days With Just $500.

Traffic Secrets

Ok, so let’s take a look at what my Hook, Story, Offer could be.

What’s my hook?

I was 40, pregnant, penniless and going through a divorce. I had to revamp my entire life. So, I did. And I’ll show you how to do the same.

What’s my story?

At 40 years old I landed in the middle of an insanely contentious divorce with a baby on the way. To add insult to injury, I basically lost access to the company that I founded in 2001, PrettyCity.com, during the course of my long, drawn-out, awful divorce.

I also lost access to my oldest son who essentially became a victim to bitter divorce power plays. I had my younger son every other weekend and for just four hours one night a week. I went from being a primary caregiver to my children and successful entrepreneur to being limited in the access I had to my children and encouraged by my parents to go on welfare to survive. I was devasted. My life was in shambles.

Instead of following my parent’s advice, I opted to start my own company with my now business partner, Johanna Grange. We founded a social media marketing company called Oak Street Social. We built a website, bought business cards, and Johanna hit the ground running trying to drive revenue while I would be the backbone of our creative offerings.

In no time, I was making money again. I used that money to fight for more access to my children, to get my house out of tax sale, and to take care of my newborn son. Fast forward seven years: Oak Street Social has been more succesful than I could have hoped for, we are entirely debt free and self funded, I am remarried and have full custody of all of my children, plus we added a step-son to the fold, making me a verrrrrry busy Mom of four, Police Officer’s wife, successful entrepreneur and, most days, a happy and kind human being. That’s right, I’m now remarried with four children, I run a profitable business that supports my family, and I own my home. I dug myself out of the hole I was thrown into AND I did it all while focusing on kindness and joy.

It’s become very stylish lately to say that women can’t have it all. I’ll be damned if that’s true. I fought very hard to have it all and I’m certainly not going to let the rest of the world tell me I can’t have it. Are you?

You’re not too old, ever. You are not beaten, ever. You are not helpless. And you are not destined to fail. You’re not greedy for wanting to have it all, and I’ll show you how to get it.

From the bottom of my heart I believe in the strength of the entrepreneurial spirit. I believe entrepreneurs power America. I believe female entrepreneurs are a special breed of women, many of whom are Mothers who want more for themselves and for their families.

That’s my story… and I’m sticking to it.
